DAL GOSHT / MUTTON DAL / MUTTON SAMBAR / MUTTON BONES COOKED WITH DAL IN SOUTHINDIAN STYLE

INGREDIENTS

  • Mutton bones – ½ kg
  • Tuvar dal – ½ cup
  • Onion – 1 big
  • Tomato -1
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Sambar pwdr – 2 tsp
  • Chilli pwdr – 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Coriander – 2 tsp
  • Turmeric pwdr – 1 tsp
  • Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Fennel seeds [saunf] – 2 tsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Few whole garam masala
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish

PREPARATION

Cut ,clean and wash the mutton bones.

Wash the dal .

Pressure cook dal + mutton bones + little turmeric .Over cook it so that the bones become little soft.[ 7-8 whistles].

Make a fine paste of onion + tomato + ginger garlic paste.

Roast the coconut with fennel seeds [saunf] till golden colour.Cool it and grind it into a fine pwdr or paste.

METHOD

Heat oil in a pan .

Add the whole garam masala ,let it splutter.

Add the onion paste and fry till oil separates .

Add turmeric + chilli pwdr + coriander pwdr + sambar pwdr and fry till raw smell leaves.

Adjust salt .

Add the coconut paste and fry for 1 minute.

Add the cooked dal.

Adjust water as per the consistency you want.[it thickens after cooling]

Simmer it for few minutes

Off the flame garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.

NOTES

  1. You can also use any other dals.
  2. Instead of sambar masalapwdr, use garam masala pwdr.
  3. Temper the gravy with mustard seeds + shallots +curry leaves in coconut oil for more flavour.
  4. You can also add few sambar veges.
