ARISI PARUPPU SADAM RECIPE

Arisi paruppu sadam is a special dish from Kongu Nadu. It is a healthy dal rice which is simple and easy to cook. This dish is extremely popular among vegetarians from Coimbatore .

INGREDIENTS

  • ¾  cup rice
  • ¼ cup toor dal
  • 15 small onion
  • Curry leaves
  • 6 Garlic cloves
  • 1 big tomato
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tsp Sambar powder
  • 2 or 2 1/4 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard + jeera
  • 2 or 3 green + red chilli
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Coriander leaves and freshly grated coconut for garnish

METHOD

Wash and soak the dal + rice for 10 to 15 mins.

Heat a pressure cooker with oil.

Slutter mustard + jeera.

Add red chillies + curry leaves and give a mix .

Add small onion + garlic and stir fry until garlic turns golden here .

Add tomato + salt , stir fry until tomatoes turn mushy.

Add sambar powder + turmeric powder and give a mix.

Add drained rice + dal and mix well.

Stir and cook for a minute.

Pour water, adjust salt, mix well and bring to boil.

Pressure cook for 3 – 4 whistles on medium flame. [ cooking time and water quantity depends on the quality of rice and soaking time ]

Let the pressure release naturally.

Once done, allow to cool for 15 mins.

Now open the pressure cooker and give it a mix.

Drizzle ghee allo ver.

Garnish with freshly grated coconut and coriander leaves .
