SOUTHINDIAN STYLE SNAKE GOURD DAL RECIPE / PUDALANGAI KOOTU

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups snake gourd chopped
  • ¼  cup toor dal
  • ¼  tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • To Grind – 3 tablespoon coconut + 1 teaspoon jeera + 2 or 3 green chilli
  • Tempering  – 2 tsp oil 1 tsp mustard Curry leaves Pinch of asafoetida .

METHOD

Pressure cook dal + salt + water + turmeric powder until mushy. Mash it up with a ladle, set aside. Cook the veggie with enough water until soft .Dont over cook .

When dal is nicely blended mix in the with the cooked vegetable , then add the coconut paste give a quick stir.

Adjust hot water and required salt.

Heat oil in a pan add the items listed under to temper

Add the dal mixture and give a stir.

Simmer for 2 minutes until raw smell of coconut paste leaves. Add little hot water it is very thick .

Once done off the flame .
