BENEFITS OF FISH

  1. Fish is high in many nutrients like high quality proteins , iodine ,various vitamins ,minerals ,vitamin – D and omega – 3 fatty acids.
  2. Eating one serving per week reduces risk of heart attacks /strokes.
  3. Omega – 3 fatty acids are essential for development of brain and eyes .It is highly recommended for expecting and nursing mothers .
  4. Fatty fish is an excellent source of vitamins – 40 % of people have this deficiency .
Pan fried tandoori fish recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 grams any fish slices / whole fish
  • 1 tbsp ginger -garlic paste
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp or as per taste  red chilli powder
  • 1 1/2  tsp tandoori masala powder [ I have used Everest brand ]
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 OR 3 tbsp thick curd  / hung curd
  • 1 tsp besan [ for binding ]
  • ½ tsp jeera pwdr
  • ½ tsp chaat masala pwdr
  • 1 tsp kasoori
  • 1 tsp mustard oil
  • Oil to fry
  • 1/8 tsp tandoori food colour  [ optional ]
  • rice flour for dusting before frying the fish .

METHOD

Whisk hung curd  really well till creamy . Mix all dry spices in it . Marinade for fish is ready .

Cut ,wash, clean the fish well. apply little salt and turmeric and keep aside for 15 mins.

Wash again and pat dry the fish.

Make small even gashes on the fish with a sharp knife so the masalas can penetrate and season the fish throughout.

Be gentle and do not cut too deep.

Apply the marinade on the fish.

Make sure that the masalas are evenly coated.

Apply masala in the gashes so the fish gets evenly seasoned.

Marinate the fish in the refrigerator for minimum 30 mins or more .

Heat oil in a pan until  hot.

Take a slice of marinated fish in your hands and sprinkle little rice flour on both the sides .

Place the fish pieces carefully and fry it for 5 minutes.

Then turn the fish pieces with care and cook it for 3 to 4 minutes or until done.

*Cooking time depends on the thickness of the fish piece .

Remove from the pan and drain off the excess oil on kitchen towel or tissue

Serve hot with Mint Chutney and onion rings /lemon .

*You can sprinkle little chaat masala over the fried fish before serving .

NOTES

  1. You can use whole fish or any Boneless fish pieces too.
  2. Adjust masalas as per taste.
  3. you can grill it in the oven also .
