TINDA STIR FRIED WITH CHANA DAL

TINDA STIR FRIED WITH CHANA DAL

INGREDIENTS

  • Tinda / apple gourd – 250 gms
  • Chana dal – ¼ cup
  • Onion chopped – 1
  • Green chilli chopped – 3
  • Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander pwdr – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Freshly grated coconut – 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

PREPARATION

  1. Wash and wipe the tinda . Peel it and chop it into small cubes .[ smaller the size ,lesser the cooking time ]
  2. Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the chana dal for minimum 1 hr .[ more the soaking time ,lesser the cooking time ]

METHOD

Heat oil ,add mustard seeds and let it crackle .

Add onion + green chilli + curry leaves .

Fry till translucent .

Add soaked chana dal and mix well .

Add little water,cover and cook till it is half cooked .

Open the lid ,add turmeric + salt and mix well .

Add the tinda and mix well .

Drizzle little water ,cover and cook .

The tinda will sweat a bit .

Allow it to cook on medium flame.

Stir fry in between .

Cook till both dal and tinda soften and are fully cooked .

Add coriander pwdr and mix well .

Finally add grated coconut and mix well .

Serve as a side dish .

NOTES

  1. You can also use cooked chana dal .
  2. Instead of corianderpwdr ,u can use sambar pwdr .
  3. Instead of ¼ cup ,u can use 1/2cup of dal.
  4. I forgot to add asafoetida ,add a pinch of asafoetida.
