HOW TO MAKE BUTTERFLY PEA FLOWER TEA / BLUE TEA RECIPE

Butterfly pea flowers can be eaten raw, as well as brewed into an herbal tea. Aside from being beautiful, butterfly pea flowers also have several health benefits.

Butterfly pea flower tea, commonly known as blue tea, is a caffeine-free herbal tea, or tisane, beverage made from a decoction or infusion of the flower petals or whole flower of the Clitoria ternatea plant. 

 It’s rich in antioxidants and often used as an herbal tea and natural dye.

Add this drink to your detox diet plan because it is rich in antioxidants. Drinking a cup of blue tea daily on an empty stomach may improve digestive health.

Butterfly pea flowers are rich in several antioxidants, including ternatins, kaemphferol, p-coumaric acid, and delphinidin-3,5-glucoside.

Some research suggests that butterfly pea flower and the compounds it contains may help support skin and hair health, increase weight loss, and stabilize blood sugar levels.

INGREDIENTS

  • Fresh or dried blue pea flowers – 4 to 6
  • Ginger crushed – 1 tsp
  • Water – 1 cup [  250 ml ]
  • Honey to taste
  • Lemon juice as needed

Dried blue peas are easily available online

METHOD

If using fresh flowers discard the round green part .

Wash the flowers well gently without pressing .

Bring water to boil .

Add the ginger + fresh or dried flowers and boil for 3 to 4 mins.

Once done off the flame and strain it.

Press the flowers with the back to the spoon to extract all the flavor from the flowers.

The tea will be blue in colour .

Ad honey and mix , the colour will change to purple

Finally add lemon juice as needed and mix well , again the colour will change to pink /  lavender

Once done serve hot or chilled.

NOTE –

  1. We can use either the fresh flowers or dried ones .
  2. If you want a strong flavor, steep the flowers in water for a longer time and when discarding the flowers.
  3. We can add any sweetener like honey , sugar etc .
