Awala – Amla – Indian Gooseberry is available in winter and is full of nutrients. It’s a great immunity booster. One can make different accompaniments using Awala. This pickle is sweet and sour pickle made using Awala. It’s an easy recipe to make a yummy accompaniment that goes well with Thepla, Roti, Chilla etc.
If the bitter taste of amla was keeping you from including it in your diet, then you must try this amla recipe , which is a perfect blend of sweet and sour flavour.
Having amla everyday can help boost immunity. It helps keep any common health issues like cold and cough at bay. Amla is rich in fiber which is essential for a healthy digestive system. It helps in treating any digestion-related issues like constipation, bloating among others.
Regular consumption of amla candy can help you with digestion as it is rich in fibre. Antioxidants-rich amla can help in fighting free radicals and the damage caused by them. The benefit of amla candy over other ways to include amla in diet as that the candy can be carried to work or even when you’re travelling.
Amla is one of the most powerful superfoods and has been an important part of traditional Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. According to Theravada Buddhism amla is considered the plant of enlightenment. Synonyms of amla in Sanskrit mean “mother,” “nurse,” and “immortality”. Amla contains 8 times more vitamin C than Orange.

INGREDIENTS
- Amla – ½ kg
- Jaggery – ½ kg
- Grated ginger – 2 tbsp
- Black salt – 1 ½ tsp
- Black cardamom – 1
- Green cardamom – 7
- Clove – 4
- Black pepper – 8
- Cinnamon – 1 ich piece
- Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
- Red chilli pwdr – 1 tsp
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
METHOD
Make a powder of green cardamom + black cardamom + clove + black pepper .
Buy amla fresh amla with less brown spots.
Steam it till soft. [ 6 TO 7 MINS ]
Once done remove it and allow to cool.
Grate it with a grater with fine holes .Discard the seeds,
Take a non stick pan with the grated amla and jaggery .
Keep on medium flame and mix well.
Stir and cook till the jaggery melts.
Add the ground masala pwdr and spices and mix well.
Again stir and cook on low flame.
Don’t overcook as it thickens on cooling .
Total cooking time 12 to 15 mins .
It should be of honey consistency .
Once done off the flame and add the lemon juice and mix well.
Bring it to room temperature .
Store in sterilized bottle.
Enjoy yummy amla pickle as an accompaniment with Thepla, Roti, Chilla.
