FARALI SWEET POTATO VADA / UPVAS VADA RECIPE

INGREDIENTS [ 18 vadas ] 1 cup – 250 ml

  • Morayo / Sama  / bhagar – 1/2 cup
  • Sweet Potato peeled and chopped – 125 gm or 1 cup
  • Sesame seeds – 2 tsp
  • Roasted skinless Peanut coarse powder – 2 tbsp
  • Desiccated Coconut –  ¼  cup
  • Green chilly ginger paste –  1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Black salt – 1/4 tsp
  • Jeera – 1/2 tsp
  • Black Pepper powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon Juice – 2 tsp
  • Chopped coriander – 2 or 3 tbsp [ optional – if making for fasting , don’t add ]

METHOD

Clean , wash and rinse the sama well.

Drain the excess water and transfer to a cooker.

Add the chopped sweet potato + 1 cup water .

Pressure cook on medium flame for 2 whistles and off the flame.

Once the pressure release, open and transfer the mixture to a big plate and start mashing it when it is hot .

Now add all other ingredients one by one and mix well.

Knead like a dough.

Now grease your hand and Take a small portion of dough and flatten it out between two palms.

Heat oil in a pan, add vada, and fry them on medium flame. Flip it in between for even browning.

When it is crispy and golden brown from both side. Drain and remove on absorbent paper .

Serve farali vada with farali peanut chutney and masala tea.
