Pepper poha
PEPPER POHA / MILAGU AVAL / KALIMIRI POHE
INGREDIENTS
- Poha – 2 cup of regular poha
- Onion finely chopped – 1
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Whole black pepper – 1 tsp or 1 ½ tsp or as per taste
- Broken cashews – few [ optional – or use peanuts ]
- Freshly grated coconut – 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Lemon juice – few drops
- Ghee + oil – 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds + urad dal – 2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Finely chopped coriander leaves
PREPARATION
- Take the poha in a colander as shown in the video .Clean ,wash and rinse twice or thrice. Drain off the water completely . Cover and keep aside for 10 mins till it swells up .
- Grind the pepper + jeera into a coarse pwdr .
METHOD
Heat oil + ghee ,add the mustard seeds + urad dal + cashews and fry .
Add onion + curry leaves and fry till translucent .
Add the pepper + jeera pwdr and fry .
Add salt as required .
Add the poha and mix well , till it is nicely coated with the masalas.[ low flame ]
Cover and cook for a minute till the poha becomes soft .[ don’t overcook ]
TIP – Drizzle little water and cook if the poha is very dry .
Garnish with coriander leaves + coconut and mix well.
Off the flame.
Drizzle lemon juice and top it with finely chopped raw onion while serving .
Serve hot with coconut chutney or plain .
NOTE
- Add pepper pwdr as per taste .
- Yes you can add potato also like regular poha recipe.
