Tinda stir fried with chana dal
TINDA STIR FRIED WITH CHANA DAL
INGREDIENTS
- Tinda / apple gourd – 250 gms
- Chana dal – ¼ cup
- Onion chopped – 1
- Green chilli chopped – 3
- Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
- Coriander pwdr – ½ tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Freshly grated coconut – 2 or 3 tbsp
- Salt to taste
PREPARATION
- Wash and wipe the tinda . Peel it and chop it into small cubes .[ smaller the size ,lesser the cooking time ]
- Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the chana dal for minimum 1 hr .[ more the soaking time ,lesser the cooking time ]
METHOD
Heat oil ,add mustard seeds and let it crackle .
Add onion + green chilli + curry leaves .
Fry till translucent .
Add soaked chana dal and mix well .
Add little water,cover and cook till it is half cooked .
Open the lid ,add turmeric + salt and mix well .
Add the tinda and mix well .
Drizzle little water ,cover and cook .
The tinda will sweat a bit .
Allow it to cook on medium flame.
Stir fry in between .
Cook till both dal and tinda soften and are fully cooked .
Add coriander pwdr and mix well .
Finally add grated coconut and mix well .
Serve as a side dish .
NOTES
- You can also use cooked chana dal .
- Instead of corianderpwdr ,u can use sambar pwdr .
- Instead of ¼ cup ,u can use 1/2cup of dal.
- I forgot to add asafoetida ,add a pinch of asafoetida.
