GREEN MOONG GHIYA RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • Green moong – ½ cup
  • Soft gourd or ridge gourd or bottle gourd / doodhi  chopped  – 2 cup
  • Onion finely chopped – 1 big
  • Garlic paste – 2 tsp
  • Tomato puree – 1 big
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Red chilli pwdr- 1 ½ tsp or as per taste
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander pwdr – 2 tsp
  • Garam masala  – 1 tsp or kitchen king masala – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar – ¼ tsp [ optional ]
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves to garnish

METHOD

Soak the green whole moong dal overnight.

Peel and chop the gourd into small cubes.

Heat oil in a cooker and crackle the jeera .

Add onions and stir fry till golden brown .

Add garlic paste and stir fry till raw smell leaves.

Add tomato puree + salt + sugar and stir fry till oil separates.

Add red chilli pwdr + coriander pwdr + turmeric pwdr + kitchen king masala and cook for few seconds.

Add the gourd and mix well.

Now add the soaked moong dal and mix well.

Stir fry for 2  mins.

Add 2 cup water and mix well.

Adjust salt as needed.

Cover and pressure cook upto 2 whistles.

Once the pressure releases ,open the cooker and give a nice mix .

If it is very thick add ½ or 1 cup of hot water and adjust the seasoning .

Garnish with coriander leaves.
