Plain moong dal khichdi
PLAIN MOONG DAL KHICHDI
INGREDIENTS
- Rice – ½ cup
- Moong dal – ½ cup
- Whole black pepper corn – 1 tsp [ optional ]
- Jeera – ½ tsp
- Cinnamom – 1 small piece [ optional ]
- Clove – 2 [ optional ]
- Green chilli – 1 broken
- Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
- Ghee – 2 or 3 tbsp
- Asafoetida – a generous pinch
- Salt to taste
- Water – 5 cups
- Coriander leaves for garnish
PREPARATION
Clean ,wash and soak the dal and rice separately for 20 mins .
METHOD
Heat ghee in a cooker ,add the cinnamom + clove + pepper + jeera .
Fry it for few seconds .[ don’t burn it ]
Add the drained dal and fry it for 1 minute till gets coated with ghee and becomes aromatic.
Add turmeric + asafoetida + soaked rice and mix well.
Add 5 cup of water ,and pressure cook upto 4 whistles.
Once the pressure is released ,open the lid and mix well .
Transfer it to a serving bowl.
Serve hot by drizzling little ghee.
You can have it plain or with any side dish.
NOTES
- It is an healthy food when, you are sick and food tastes bitter .
- Even when stomach is upset ,this is a good option, you can reduce ghee.
- You can add coriander leaves also .
- Turmeric is known to treat our body’s gastro intestinal system.
- Adjust water as per the consistency ,you want .I like loose consistency ..For more loose you can add more water ..
