ARABIC SWEET LUQAIMAT RECIPE

LUQAIMAT / LOKMA / LOUKOUMADES / DOUGHTNUT BALLS RECIPE/ARABIC SWEET DUMPLINGS /AWAMAT / GEMAT

luqaimat are  deep-fried round shaped doughnuts with a crunchy texture and golden-brown color on the outside, while remaining soft and airy on the inside.

Luqaimat/ Sweet dumplings are plain so they are served with sugar syrup or  Dates syrup or honey or maple syrup or chocolate sauce or any sweetener .

NOTE – You can use any sweetener to serve these balls.

SIMPLE SYRUP:

  • ½  cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 whole cardamom pods

METHOD

In a saucepan, add water, sugar, lemon juice, and cardamom pods.

Cook over high heat for 4 – 5 minutes.

Lower the heat to medium and cook for 5 more minutes.

Turn the heat off and set it aside to cool.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp. corn flour [ optional ]
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup maida flour
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Water – ½ cup roughly
  • oil for frying

METHOD

 Take the flour +cornflour +  yeast + 1 tsp sugar + 1 tsp oil + curd + salt and mix well .

Now gradually add water make a semi thick batter.

Cover nicely and keep for half hour to 1 hour, till the batter is fermented nicely.

After fermentation , mix the batter well with a spoon. 

Heat  oil in a deep pan on medium heat.

Using a spoon or your hands, scoop little batter and put in the oil , just like we make dahi vadas .

Stir and fry the Luqaimat balls for  couple of minutes until they  are golden brown and  crispy on the outside.

Add fried Luqaimat balls directly into the sugar syrup and give a nice mix. No need of soaking .

Transfer them in a colander for excess syrup to drip off.

You can sprinkle crushed pistachios or roasted sesame seeds before serving.

Serve warm .
