THIN AND CRISPY TIL PATTI RECIPE

Til Chikki – Sesame Seed Bar is a traditional Indian brittle recipe generally prepared during the festivals of Lohri and Makar Sankranti (kite flying festival). 

It is a flavorful and delicious Indian sweet brittle prepared with roasted sesame seeds and melted sugar which adds the stickiness and helps to shape it. Til Chikki or Sesame Seed Chikki is also known as ‘Til Ki Patti’ or ‘Til ki Chikki’, which is a simple translation of Sesame Bar. They are  gifted to neighbours, friends, and family during the Makar Sankranti festival. 

Sesame seeds or til are known to be an excellent source of protein, which helps increase your metabolic rate and curbs hunger, thereby avoiding excessive calorie consumption and aiding weight loss. In fact, fibre-rich foods can help you lose fat but maintain muscles.

These bars are a delectable winter delicacy that is enjoyed throughout the winter season. This is because sesame seeds give energy, nourish us, and keep the body warm during winters.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/4 cup white sesame seeds
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4  tsp cardamom powder

METHOD

Dry roast sesame on low flame till it splutters. Keep it aside.

Now in the same pan, heat sugar on lowest flame .

Stir continuously and cook on low flame till the sugar melts completely.

Add sesame and cardamom pwdr .

Switch off the gas, and add cardamom powder and roasted sesame seeds and mix well .

See that the syrup coats well.

Immediately start making the pattis. Grease the rolling pin and slab.

NOTE –  be quick else the mixture turns hard and will be difficult to set.

Take a small portion , roll it over sesame seeds.

Flatten it and roll with a rolling pin into very thin sheets .

Keep aside to cool for 30 mins before storing .

Store in an airtight container and serve for a month.

You can also add dry fruits of your choice which sesame seeds for a healthier version.
