DAL DHOKLI RECIPE
INGREDIENTS FOR DHOKLI
- Wheat flour – 1/2 cup
- Besan – 1 tbsp
- Chilli pwdr – 1/4 tsp
- Turmeric pwdr – a pinch
- Ajwain – 1/4 tsp
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Salt to taste
INGREDIENTS FOR DAL
- Toor dal – 1/2 cup
- Bay leaf – 1
- Red chilli – 2
- Cinnamon – small piece
- Curry leaves – few
- Raw peanut – 1/4 cup
- Tomato – 1
- Ghee – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Chilli pwdr – 1/4 or 1/2 tsp or as per taste
- Coriander pwdr – 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Jaggery – a small piece
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
- Finley chopped coriander leaves to garnish
- Finely chopped onion and lemon for serving
PREPARATION
- Clean ,wash, rinse and soak the dal + peanuts separately for 30 mins.
- Pressure cook the dal with tomato + salt + turmeric . Once done ,blend it to fine and add 3 cup of water and mix well. In the same cooker while cooking the dal keep the soaked peanuts also in a small bowl as shown in the video.
- Make a soft dough of wheat flour + besan + chilli pwdr + turmeric + ajwain + ghee + salt + water as required. Cover and keep the dough aside for some time.
METHOD
Heat ghee in a pan ,add 1 tsp jeera + mustard seeds and let it crackle .
Add the bayleaf + curry leaves + red chilli + cinnamon + asafoetida and stir fry.
Lower the flame and add chilli pwdr + coriander pwdr and fry don’t burn it .
Add the cooked dal + jaggery and mix well.
Adjust salt if required.
Allow it to boil.
Mean while roll the dough into a thin chapati and cut it into desired shape.
Once the dal starts boiling ,lower the flame to medium.
Slide in the dhoklis one by one so that they don’t stick.
Add the boiled peanuts also.
Allow it to cook for 8 – 10 mins on medium flame.
Off the flame and add 1 tbsp of lemon juice.
While serving top it with some cooked peanuts + onion + lemon juice .
One pot meal is ready to serve .
***The dal thickens on cooling so adjust water accordingly .
