How to make sweet bajra porridge

BAJRA RAAB / BAJRA NI RAAB / PEARL MILLET SWEET PORRIDGE /INSTANT BAJRA PORRIDGE / KAMBU KANJI / HEALTHY BREAKFAST

Bajra raab is a nourishing and healing winter drink .It is a traditional warm healthy soup prepared from bajra (pearl millet) & ajwain / carom seeds infused with dry ginger powder. 

Bajra raab is an effective drink recommended to cure cold and cough. The drink helps in improving immune system and is given to person who feel lost of appetite. Bajra or pearl millet is rich in iron, magnesium, phosphorous and other minerals. Hence this raab drink provides missing nutrition to our body.

Bajra or pearl millet flour is widely used during winter months as it very nourishing. Raab is a very thin drink made with different millet flours and if you boil it for long, it can be made thick like pearl millet porridge.

 It’s a simple recipe where we just roast bajra flour is some ghee and ajwain seeds, add jaggery, ginger powder and a pinch of salt, add water and let it boil

Every ingredient in the recipe is healthy and perfect to build your immunity against or fight common cold, coughs, fever 

Raab can also be made with other millets like corn and ragi (finger millet). 

It is also given to pregnant and nursing mothers as bajra is very nutritious for them.

INGREDIENTS [ 1 cup – 250 ml ]

  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp ajwain seeds
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup bajra flour
  • 3 or 4 tbsp jaggery grated or powdered
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dry ginger powder
  • 2 crushed cardamom
  • 2 or 3 cups water as per the consistency you want
  • Chopped nuts like badam / walnut / pista etc

METHOD

Heat ghee in a pan .

Once the ghee is hot, add ajwain seeds and black pepper and let them splutter.

Add bajra flour and roast it in ghee for 2 to 3 mins till aromatic .

Add water , mix well to ensure no lumps are formed .

Add salt + jaggery and mix well.

Stir and cook till the jaggery melts .

Add ginger powder + cardamom and mix .

Bring it to a boil and continue to cook on low heat for  5 mins.

The raab is ready.

Serve hot garnished with nuts .
