CHANA DAL KI SABJI / CHANA DAL RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
- Chana dal – 1 cup
- Oil – 1 or 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Jeera – ½ tsp
- Asafoetida – generous pinch
- Finely chopped onion – 1
- Green chilli – 1
- Finely chopped tomato – 1
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Red chilli pwdr – 1 tsp or as per taste
- Coriander pwdr – 1 tsp
- Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
- Garam masala pwdr – ½ tsp [ optional ]
- Water – 1 cup
- Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish
- Salt to taste
METHOD
Wash and soak the dal for 3 to 5 hrs .
Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
Add mustard seeds + jeera + asafoetida and let it crackle .
Add onion + green chilli + curry leaves and stir fry till light brown .
Add ginger garlic paste and stir fry till raw smell leaves .
Lower the flame and add red chilli powder + coriander powder + turmeric + garam masala pwdr .Stir fry for few seconds.
Add tomato + salt and stir fry till oil separates .
Add soaked chana Dal and mix well .
Stir fry for a min .
Add 1 cup water and give a mix .
Pressure cook till 2 or 3 whistles on medium flame . [ cooking time depends on how long you have soaked the dal , size of the cooker and quality of dal , mine cooked in 2 whistles ]
Once the pressure releases open and give a mix .
If there is excess water . then open cook it till the excess water evaporates .
Add Coriander leaves and serve hot with any Indian breads like chapati / phulka / roti etc
