EASY DAHI BHALLA RECIPE

EASY URAD DAL DAHI BHALLA / DAHI BHALLA / DAHI BADE / DAHI VADA

An extremely popular and tasty street food snack recipe. Dahi vada is a type of chaat originating from the Indian subcontinent and popular throughout South Asia. It is prepared by soaking vadas in thick dahi.

INGREDIENTS

  • Urad dal – 150 grm [ 1/2 cup dal ]
  • Chilled curd – 500 ml
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar pwdr – 3 or 4 tbsp or as per taste
  • Chilli pwdr as needed
  • Roasted jeera pwdr as needed
  • Sweet chutney as needed

METHOD

Soak  urad dal over night .

Drain off the water and wash it well .Rinse it in 3 to 4 water .

Drain off the excess water .

Take the small mixie cup and add the soaked dal.

Add 3 or 4 tbsp  cold water and grind to a  smooth paste .

For 1/2 cup dal we need to add roughly 7 to 8 tbsp

The batter should be of dropping consistency.

Transfer the batter to a large bowl.

Add  salt and mix well .

Beat the batter in one direction for 1 min .

Keep a deep pan with oil to heat .

Once the oil is hot , take a small lemon size portion into the hot oil .

While scooping the batter check the technique I have used .

Keeping the flame on medium, stir occasionally.

Fry until the vada turns crisp. Colour should not change much .

Drain off the vada and remove it .

Keep the vadas aside for 10 mins

SOAKING THE VADAS

In a large bowl take water .

After 10 mins add the fried vadas in the water and leave it for 10 mins .

Just remove the vadas soak it in cold water for 1 hr .

Take out them out from water and press gently between your palms to remove excess water. [ press as shown in the video ]

SWEETENED CURD

Take curd + ½ cup water + salt + sugar +  ½ tsp roasted jeera pwdr and whisk well . Keep in fridge till use .

ASSEMBLING DAHI BHALLA

Take few soaked vadas in a palte .

Pour the sweetened curd over the vada.

Drizzle sweet tamarind chutney all over .

Sprinkle chilli powder + roasted jeera powder

Serve chilled .
