Amla Goli is great on the go snack. Amla is one of the most powerful superfoods and has been an important part of traditional Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. According to Theravada Buddhism amla is considered the plant of enlightenment. Synonyms of amla in Sanskrit mean “mother,” “nurse,” and “immortality”. Amla contains 8 times more vitamin C than Orange.
Amla Ki Goli is a tangy and spicy candy made from Indian Gooseberries. They are good for digestion and used as paachak Goli. Being rich in vitamin c amlas are good for health too and ideal to eat in winters.
Amla with jaggery helps in giving your body the much needed dose of iron, which helps in improving the haemoglobin level and also helps in purifying the blood naturally.
Gooseberries are one of the super food for kids, but sadly many kids do not prefer to eat them because of its sour taste.
The phytonutrients and antioxidants in amla can benefit memory by fighting against free radicals that can attack and damage brain cells. The antioxidants and vitamins found in amla berries offer several health benefits. High concentrations of vitamin C in amla helps the body recover from illness.

INGREDIENTS
- Amla / Gooseberry – 250 gm (10 medium size)
- Jaggery grated /powdered – 200 grms [ roughly 1 cup ]
- Cumin / jeera roasted and powdered – 1 tsp
- Ajwain crushed with hands – 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
- Black Salt – ½ tsp
- Salt – ½ tsp
- Ginger powder – 1 ½ tsp
- Black Pepper powder – ½ tsp
- Amchur powder – 1 ½ tbsp
- Powdered Sugar – 3 or 4 tbsp for coating
METHOD
Buy amla of good quality – green and with less brown spots on it .
Pressure cook it with ½ cup water upto 2 whistles .
Once pressure releases open and allow the amla to cool down .
Discard seeds and make it into small pieces .
Grind into smooth paste .Don’t add water while grinding – Roughly you will get 1 cup of amla paste .
Transfer it to a non stick or heavy bottom pan.
Stir and cook on medium flame for 2 mins .
Stir continuously , while cooking .
Lower the flame and add jaggery and mix well.
Again stir and cook till the jaggery melts completely .
Once the jaggery melts , add the spices .
Cook till the mixture thickens on medium to low flame .
The mixture will become a lump and start leaving the edges of the pan . [don’t over cook – it thickens more on cooling ]
It takes around 15 to 18 mins .
Transfer it to a plate.
When you touch it , it should not stick to your hands.
Once you are able to handle the mixture, start making the balls.
Dust your palms with sugar powder , take a small marble size portion and roll it into small balls .
The balls should be well coated with sugar pwdr from all sides .
Allow it to set for 30 min.
Store at room temperature for 10 – 15 days or in fridge for 6 months.
Delicious Amla Goli or Gata Gat is ready to enjoy!
