HOW TO MAKE PERFECT POACHED EGGS

In poached eggs whites are just firm enough on the outside to contain an oozy, golden yolk in a round little egg.

It is fulfilling, rich in protein, healthy and easy to prepare – you can get eggs done within few minutes only.

INGREDIENTS

  • Fresh eggs [ use fresh ones ]
  • Big pot
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Vinegar – 2 tsp [ optional ]
  • Tea strainer / fine mesh

METHOD

Bring a large pot of  water +  + salt + vinegar to a boil over high heat and then turn the heat to its lowest setting.

Grease the  strainer and place it over a bowl .

Carefully crack an egg into the strainer. Flame has to be low.

Allow the excess watery egg white to strain into the bowl.

Carefully place the whole mesh strainer with the egg inside in the simmering water and allow the egg white to begin to cook and then gently tip the strainer into the simmering water.

The egg white will cover the egg yolk.

Gently stir the water so the egg slowly moves as it cooks.

 Let the egg poach for 2  to 4  minutes.

The longer you poach the egg, the harder the yolk will be.so cook as per the consistency you want

Drain and remove the egg on an absorbent poaper  and serve hot by sprinkling pepper pwdr and salt. Serve it on a toast accompanied with any salad. 

SWIRL METHOD

Crack a egg in a small bowl and set it aside. Take a ladle / spoon and give a nice swirl to the water in the sauce pan.

When the water swirls like a tornado ,  carefully drop the egg inside the  pan in the centre . The egg will start swirling with the water and the whites will cover the yolk .

NOTE – here swirlin is important as it avoids egg from settling and sticking at the bottom of the  pan.

Let the egg poach for 1 ½  to 3  minutes.

POACHED EGG IN MICRWAVE

Take ½ cup water in microwave cup .Microwave on high power for 1 minute.

Crack the egg into the water. Gently slide a toothpick into the yolk to pierce it , keeping it intact.

Cover with a microwave safe lid /saucer etc

Microwave the egg another 35 seconds on high. Now check and keep micrwaving in a interval of 10 secs till you get desired texture .

Once done drain and remove .

NOTE –  the yolk can explode in the microwave if it is not pierced . Piercing the yolk and covering the cup while cooking avoids the exploding .
