KERALA VILLAGE STYLE FISH CURRY WITHOUT COOCONUT

INGREDIENTS

  • Any fish – 1/2 kg
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder – 3 to 4 tsp  or as per taste
  • Coriander pwdr – 3 tsp [ optional ]
  • Tamarind – 1 big amla size OR 3 pieces of kudampuli or kokum soaked in 1 cup hot water for 10mins
  • Shallots thinly sliced – 10 nos
  • Garlic and Ginger crushed – 1 tbsp
  • Green chilli – 1 or 2
  • Tomato – 1
  • Curry leaves –
  • Coconut oil – 1 tbsp
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Salt to taste

METHOD

Take all ingredients one by one in a clay pot or any broad pan .

Mix well .

Add the tamarind / kokum / kodam puli with water .

Add 1 cup water and adjust salt as needed .

place the clay pot on the stove at medium high flame and bring to a boil and let it boil for 10 mins.

Now cover and cook on lowest flame for more 10 mins till the fish is cooked and the gravy thickens .

Finally drizzle the coconut oil all over and add the curry leaves.

Off the flame and let the curry rest for minimum 30 mins or more .

Fish curry is ready to serve.
