RAW BANANA ROAST RECIPE

Green bananas may provide some additional nutrients and benefits that yellow bananas do not. They’re rich in resistant starch and pectin, which are filling, improve digestive health and help lower blood sugar levels.

INGREDIENTS

  • Raw banana  – 2 big or 3 medium size
  • Red chilli pwdr – 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander pwdr – 1 tsp
  • Sambar pwdr – 1 or 1 ½  tsp [ sambar pwdr also has chilli ]
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Garlic crushed or grated – 2 tsp
  • Rice flour – 1 ½  tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry – 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves – a sprig

NOTE

Southindian raw bananas are bigger and thicker. So we can pressure cook it from 1 to 2 whistles depending on size .

If using regular raw bananas, then just steam it. Else it will get overcooked .

PREPARATION

  1. Pressure cook the whole raw banana  upto 1 or  2 whistles depending on size. [don’t over cook ] You can also steam it .
  2. Peel the skin and chop it .

METHOD

Take all the masala pwdrs + rice flour  + garlic + salt in a  plate and mix well and add it over the chopped banana . Mix well till it is coated nicely.

Keep aside for marination for 10 mins or more .

Heat oil in a flat frying pan .

Add curry leaves and give a mix.

Immediately add the marinated raw banana and give a nice mix .

Sprinkle 1 tbsp of water, close the lid and cook for 5 – 7 minutes.

Turn in between to make sure it gets cooked evenly.

The banana will get roasted well .

Off the flame .

Serve hot as a side dish .

Sprinkle little chaat masala / lemon juice while serving .[ optional ]

NOTES

  1. Instead of sambar masala ,you can use ¼ tsp garam masala pwdr and increase chilli pwdr accordingly.
  2. Adjust masala pwdr as per taste .
  3. Instead of rice flour v can use besan .
  4. Add a pinch of asafoetida .
  5. Instead of frying we can also bake it .
  6. Same recipe can be tried with potato and raw arbi .
  7. Pls don’t over cook the banana .It should be firm .If it is little overcooked then you can refrigerate for sometime .
  8. We can also add fennel / saunf powder .
