SIMPLE SOUTHINDIAN STYLE WHITE COCONUT CHUTNEY FOR IDLI AND DOSA
INGREDIENTS
- Freshly grated coconut or coconut pieces without the brown part – ½ cup
- Chutney dal /roasted gram dal – 2 tbsp
- Green chilli – 2 or as per taste
- Garlic – 1 OR small piece of ginger [ optional ]
- Milk – ½ cup
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Red chilli broken – 1 [ optional ]
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Urad dal – ½ tsp
- Curry leaves – few
METHOD
Scrap the white fleshy part of coconut without brown part for better taste.
Take coconut, green chillies, fried gram dal and required salt in a mixie jar and grind .
Add milk and grind it smooth .
It should be smooth but you should be able to feel the texture like shown below.
Transfer the chutney to a bowl.
Heat oil in a small pan .
Crackle mustard seeds , then add urad dal let it become golden.
Add curry leaves + red chilli and mix well and switch off.
Add this tadka over the chutney.
Coconut chutney ready to be served with any southindian breakfast items .
NOTE – instead of chutney dal we can add cashew also .
