SIMPLE SOUTHINDIAN STYLE WHITE COCONUT CHUTNEY FOR IDLI AND DOSA

INGREDIENTS

  • Freshly grated coconut or coconut pieces without the brown part – ½  cup
  • Chutney dal /roasted gram dal – 2 tbsp
  • Green chilli – 2 or as per taste
  • Garlic – 1 OR small piece of ginger [ optional ]
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Red chilli broken – 1 [ optional ]
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

METHOD

Scrap the white fleshy part of coconut without brown part for better taste.

Take coconut, green chillies, fried gram dal and required salt in a mixie jar and grind .

Add milk  and grind it smooth .

It should be smooth but you should be able to feel the texture like shown below.

Transfer the chutney to a bowl.

Heat oil in a small pan .

Crackle mustard seeds , then add urad dal let it become golden.

Add curry leaves + red chilli and mix well and switch off.

Add this tadka over the chutney.

Coconut chutney ready to be served with any southindian breakfast items .

NOTE – instead of chutney dal we can add cashew also .
