SWEET WHEAT FLOUR APPE

Wheat flour appam is mostly made for festivals .Its very easy to make and delicious too with flavorful wheat flour and jaggery in it. You can make it for snacks too. 

SWEET WHEAT FLOUR APPE

INGREDIENTS

  • Wheat flour – 1 cup
  • Rice flour – 3 or 4 tbsp
  • Rava – 1 tsp [ optional ]
  • Ripe banana puree – ½ or ¾  cup
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
  • Jaggery – ¾ cup or as per taste
  • Fried coconut or cashew bites – 2 tbsp
  • Salt a pinch
  • Baking soda – ¼ tsp [ must ]
  • Ghee as needed
  • Appe pan

Method

Take jaggery + water in a pan and cook till the jaggery melts completely .

Strain and keep aside.We need 1 cup syrup.

 Take 2 or 3 ripe bananas and puree it. We need ½ or ¾ cup puree .

Take all ingredients together and make a thick batter like idli batter.There should be no lumps .The batter should not be thin , else the appe  will be hard and absorb oil .

Let it rest for minimum 30 mins or more.

Add the cashew/coconut bits and mix.

Now add baking soda and beat the batter well.Baking soda is must as it makes the appe light and fluffy,and the appe gets cooked from inside .

Heat a appe pan with little ghee in each cavity.

Once hot pour the batter.

Cook on both sides till golden .

Once done remove and serve.
