If the bitter taste of amla was keeping you from including it in your diet, then you must try this amla candy, which is a perfect blend of sweet and sour flavour.
Having amla candy everyday can help boost immunity. It helps keep any common health issues like cold and cough at bay. Amla is rich in fiber which is essential for a healthy digestive system. It helps in treating any digestion-related issues like constipation, bloating among others.
Regular consumption of amla candy can help you with digestion as it is rich in fibre. Antioxidants-rich amla can help in fighting free radicals and the damage caused by them. The benefit of amla candy over other ways to include amla in diet as that the candy can be carried to work or even when you’re travelling.
Amla is one of the most powerful superfoods and has been an important part of traditional Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. According to Theravada Buddhism amla is considered the plant of enlightenment. Synonyms of amla in Sanskrit mean “mother,” “nurse,” and “immortality”. Amla contains 8 times more vitamin C than Orange.
Besides being a rich source of vitamin c, these candies can even help you boost your metabolism to maintain your overall health easily. Once your metabolism is good and your digestive system stays healthy, you can even manage your blood sugar levels easily.
The phytonutrients and antioxidants in amla can benefit memory by fighting against free radicals that can attack and damage brain cells. The antioxidants and vitamins found in amla berries offer several health benefits. High concentrations of vitamin C in amla helps the body recover from illness.

INGREDIENTS
- ½ kg amla or gooseberries frozen
- 250 g sugar
- 2 tablespoon powdered sugar
METHOD
Buy amla of good quality .Green in colour with less brown spots.
Put the amla in freezer to freeze for 2 to 3 days.
Once it freezes.
Bring it to room temperature..
Note – this is done to soften the amlas.
Peel it .
De-seed and separate segments.
Boil water in a pan and add the amlas. Boil the amlas for just 5 to 6 mins .
Drain the excess water completely through a strainer and then spread on a cloth to remove excess moisture,and dry on cloth
Transfer the gooseberry flakes with sugar in a wide bowl .
Cover the bowl and keep outside in the sun for 2 days.
Turn with a dry spoon everyday .
Drain the excess sugar from the amla and arrange them on a cloth.
Cover it with a muslin or net cloth to avoid dust .
Allow to dry in the sun for a further 2 – 3 days.
Once done toss them in powdered sugar once they have dried, this allows any extra moisture to be absorbed by the sugar.
NOTES
- The candy can be stored in the refrigerator or in a cool, dry place.
- Depending on the weather, you make keep the amla in sugar for a day or 2.
- If you make it with less sugar then it will be less moist.
