HOMEMADE RED CHILLI POWDER /LAL MIRCH POWDER

Homemade Red Chilli Powder or Lal Mirch Powder is an authentic masala powder which has a mix blend of different types of chillies such as Red Chilli Powder and Kashmiri Chilli. It requires only three ingredients, Red Chilli, Kashmiri Mirch and Rock Salt to prepare it.

Readymade Red Chili Powder is easily available in the market. These spices have adulteration and also have chemicals. So to get rid of adulterations and chemicals always prepare Red Chilli Powder at home. Homemade spices add taste, flavour and aroma to your recipes. Also the quality of the homemade masala is far superior to the readymade one.

Homemade Red Chilli Powder is very easy and quick to make at home. Just make it once and store it to use for months.

INGREDIENTS

250 grms  long red chillies

250  kashmiri red chillies

METHOD 1

Pluck the stemsof the red chillies .

Heat  a pan , add kashmiri red chilli and roast  on low flame without burning.

Keep stirring while roasting .

 Dry roast until crisp, remove and set aside. [ colour should not change ]

Now add long red chilli variety and dry roast.

Cool down completely then add to mixer jar and grind to a fine powder.

Blend it to make smooth and fine powder. 

Spread on a plate, cool down then store in a clean dry jar.

Keeps well for minimum a year if handled properly.

METHOD 2

Sundry the red chillies until crisp.This may take 2-3 days if there is hot sun in your home.Spread a netted cloth to protect it from insects and flies.

NOTES

  1. While grinding you can add 1 tsp salt , to prevent the freshness of the powder when stored for a long time and you won’t get any small bugs or insects also.
  2. You can also microwave them if you are using lesser quantities. 
  3. Some don’t remove the stem .
  4. The colour of the Red Chilli Powder depends on the quantity of Kashmiri Mirch added along with Red Chilli. Also adding Kashmiri Chilli enhances the flavour and is less spicy than the Red Chilli. It gives flavour as well as colour.
  5. You can also prepare the Red Chilli Powder with only Long Red Chilli. The colour will be light red and it will spicier.
