INSTANT IDIYAPPAM RECIPE

INSTANT RICE FLOUR  IDIYAPPAM MADE WITH  AMMOOS IDIYAPPAM FLOUR /RICE NOODLES / NOOL APPAM / STRING HOPPERS

Idiyappam is a south Indian steamed dish , made with rice flour as main ingredient. It is prepared mostly for Breakfast , but we can also have it for lunch or dinner.

It is served with sweetened coconut milk + jaggery  or sugar + cardamom powder.

Goes well with kurma or stew or even coconut chutney.

My family loves it loaded with freshly grated coconut + sugar

NOTE – traditionally hot water is used to knead the idiyappam dough , but this new flour available in mkt makes the process very easy. Here we use plain water to knead the dough .

use this brand flour , which doesnt need hot water to knead the dough .

INGREDIENTS

  • Ammoos brand idiyappam flour – 1 cup
  • Water to knead – roughly ¾  cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee – 1 tsp

METHOD

Take flour + salt + ghee in mixing bowl.

Add  water little by little  and start kneading into a chapati dough consistency  .Dough has to be soft , smooth and  non-sticky without any cracks. Knead well.

Keep always covered to avoid drying till use . Especially when you make large quantity.

To make idiyappam, take required portion of dough in the chakali press.

Press it over a greased idli plate  as shown in video . Boil water in idli steamer, place it inside. Steam it for 7 to 8 mins .

Immediately take out and invert over a plate and store in a hot pack/  casserole.

Serve hot .
