BASALE SOPPU THAMBLI RECIPE / MALABAR SPINACH CURD CURRY RECIPE

Tambli is unique to the state of Karnataka especially Udupi – Mangalore & Malnad region.

Tambli word is derived from ‘Tampu’ refers to cool and ‘huli’ refers as sour. Tampu Huli became Tambuli.

This dish is cool to our body, and Tambli’s are good for digestion too. Good amount of curd is added so it makes our body cool.

Malabar spinach is high in vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, and calcium.  It is a rich source of soluble fibre and hence good for treating constipation. It has a high amount of protein for a plant and is also a good source of magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Another good reason to eat malabar spinach is that it has a good amount of antioxidants, particularly beta carotene and lutein.

INGREDIENTS

  • 15  Basale soppu leaves / Malabar Spinach
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds/ Jeera
  • 2 Green Chilly
  • ¼  cup grated coconut
  • Tiny piece of Ginger
  • 1 cup sour curd
  • ½ cup water
  • Pinch of sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • tsp Ghee
  • or 3 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • 2 or 3 Red Chilli

METHOD

Heat 1 tsp ghee and stir fry the leaves for 5 to 6 mins , till it shrinks completely .

Take coconut + green chilli + ginger +jeera + fried leaves and grind into a paste by adding ½ cup water.

Now add the curd + salt and pulse it .

Transfer to a serving bowl .

Heat oil in a small pan and crackle mustard seeds.

Add curry leaves + red chilli , give a stir and off the flame.

Pour this over the tambuli.

Serve with rice .
