PUMPKIN CHANA DAL

INGREDIENTS

  • Pumpkin big cubes – 250 gms
  • Chana dal – ½ cup
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds / jeera – ½ tsp
  • Onion chopped – 1
  • Tomato chopped – 1
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Red chilli pwdr – 1 1/2 tsp or as per taste
  • Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander pwdr – 2 tsp
  • Kitchen king masala – 1 tsp
  • Oil + ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Jaggery – 1 tsp

PREPARATION

  1. Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the dal overnight  .

METHOD

Heat oil in a pressure cooker.

Add fennel seeds + jeera and let them crackle .

Add onion + curry + asafoetida and fry till light brown .

Add ginger garlic paste and fry till raw smell leaves.

Add tomatoes and fry till oil separates.

Add chilli pwdr + turmeric pwdr + coriander pwdr + kitchen king masala + salt + sugar and fry for few secs.

Add soaked chana dal , mix well and fry for a min .

Add the chopped pumpkin and mix well

Add 1 or 11/2  cups or as required water and mix well.

Close the cooker and pressure cook for just 1 whistle . [ not more else the pumpkin will become mushy ]

Let the pressure release .

Open and give a gentle mix with coriander leaves . [ don’t over mix ]

Serve with rice or phulkas .

NOTES – You can cook the pumpkin separately in a open pan and add to the cooked dal .
