Poha recipe
KANDA BATATA POHA
INGREDIENTS
- Poha – 1 1/2 or 2 cup [ regular poha – thick not thin ]
- Onion finely chopped – 1 big
- Green chilli chopped – 2 or 3 or as per taste
- Potato finely cubed – 1
- Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
- Sugar – ½ tsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds + jeera – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Curry leaves – few
- Lemon juice – 1 tsp
- Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish
- Fresh grated coconut for garnish
- Peanut roasted – 1 tbsp optional
- Salt as per taste
PREPARATION
Take the poha in a colander as shown in the video .Clean ,wash and rinse the poha twice or thrice. Drain the water completetly . Add salt + turmeric pwdr , mix well and keep aside for 10 mins.
METHOD
Heat oil in a pan. , add mustard seed + jeera and allow to crackle.
Add onion + chilli + curry leaves + asafoetida and fry till onions become translucent.
Add finely chopped potatoes, drizzle few drops of water and cook till potatoes soften.
Add peanuts + sugar + soaked poha and mix well , till complete poha is coated .
Lower the flame and cook for 1 or 2 minutes.
Off the flame garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves ,coconut and drizzle the lemon juice as required .
Serve hot.
VARIATIONS – We can add veges like peas carrot etc.instead of soaking in water . We can soak in curd and temper it .
NOTES
- Don’t brown the onions.
- If the poha is not soaked well, then drizzle few drops of water.
- You can cook or fry the potato before adding.

NOTE –
Add the poha to a colander, and wash them well under a gentle stream of running water for 1 or 2 minutes. Keep mixing the poha with a gentle hand so that all flakes are wet. Set aside for 10 minutes so that the water drains completely from the poha. Do not leave the poha to drain for too long or it will turn dry.
