If the bitter taste of amla was keeping you from including it in your diet, then you must try this amla candy, which is a perfect blend of sweet and sour flavour.
Having amla everyday can help boost immunity. It helps keep any common health issues like cold and cough at bay. Amla is rich in fiber which is essential for a healthy digestive system. It helps in treating any digestion-related issues like constipation, bloating among others.
Regular consumption of amla candy can help you with digestion as it is rich in fibre. Antioxidants-rich amla can help in fighting free radicals and the damage caused by them. The benefit of amla candy over other ways to include amla in diet as that the candy can be carried to work or even when you’re travelling.
Amla is one of the most powerful superfoods and has been an important part of traditional Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. According to Theravada Buddhism amla is considered the plant of enlightenment. Synonyms of amla in Sanskrit mean “mother,” “nurse,” and “immortality”. Amla contains 8 times more vitamin C than Orange.
Besides being a rich source of vitamin c, these candies can even help you boost your metabolism to maintain your overall health easily. Once your metabolism is good and your digestive system stays healthy, you can even manage your blood sugar levels easily.
The phytonutrients and antioxidants in amla can benefit memory by fighting against free radicals that can attack and damage brain cells. The antioxidants and vitamins found in amla berries offer several health benefits. High concentrations of vitamin C in amla helps the body recover from illness.

INGREDIENTS
- Amla – 1 kg
- Jaggery – ½ kg
- Black salt – ½ tsp
- Salt – ½ tsp
- Cardamom pwdr – ½ tsp
- Dry fruits as needed
METHOD
Buy amlas of good quality.
Wash and wipe it.
Grate it .
Add the jaggery + black salt + salt and mix well.
Cover and keep aside for 2 to 3 hrs till the amlas sweat .
Open after and give a nice mix.
Heat a pan and add the amla mixture and mix well.
Add the dry fruits and cardamom pwdr and mix well.
Bring it to a boil one medium flame .
The colour changes as it gets cooked .
Once it starts boiling , stir and cook on low flame for 8 to 10 mins till the amlas soften a bit.
Don’t over cook till string consistency .
Once done off the flame and let it be in the same pan till it cools down completely.
Transfer to a sterilized glass container.
Keep aside for 3 to 4 days for absorption .
Eat a spoon a day first thing in the morning for maximum benefits.
VARIATION – You can add others spices as per your taste like methi seeds / chilli pwdr /ginger pwdr / cloves /pepper /cinnamon / bayleaf etc
NOTES
- When buying, pick the freshest amlas with less brown spots .
- Stores well inside fridge for 6 months.
- Always handle with a dry non-reactive spoon .
- This goes extremely well with stuffed parathas. Just serve chutney with parantha and you don’t need anything else.
- Spread on a bread slice, makes a yummy sandwich to go.
- If you think it is too sweet for you, add some lime juice to it.
- If possible leave the chutney bottle in sun for a couple of days so that there is no chance for it to go bad.
