Appe made from idli batter
APPE MADE FROM IDLI BATTER / KULI PANIYARAM / PADDU / RICE BUNS / VEGETABLE APPE
INGREDIENTS
- 3 cups of fermented idli batter. – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9OVRVzoSQc
- ½ tsp ginger grated.
- 1 small onion finely chopped.
- 1 or 2 green chilies finely chopped .
- 1/2 cup veges of your choice [carrot /beetroot /boiled peas etc ]
- 1 tsp crushed fennel seeds [ crush /rub it between your palms ]
- 1/2 cup coriander leaves chopped finely
- Salt to taste.
- Rava – 2 tbsp [ optional ]
METHOD
Mix all the above ingredients well.
Keep the appe pan on medium heat.
Once it is hot , add a few drops of oil in each mould.
Pour spoonful of the batter leaving some space over the top.
Allow to cook for 2 – 3mins on medium heat.
- Don’t cook on low flame .Adjust flame between medium and high .
Check it with a wooden stick .Turn them and allow the other side to cook.
Cook till it is light golden brown and crispy.
Remove it .
Serve hot with any chutney, sambar. Kids prefer it with sauce.
NOTES
- While making for kids replace green chilli with pepper pwdr.
- Appe can also be made with dosa batter, rava and medu vada batter.
- Some also give tempering to the batter.
- instead of oil ,we can use ghee .
- If adding beetroot ,squeeze extra juice and add .
- more the oil ,crispy the appes .
- You can add any ingreidient of your choice in the batter like any spice pwdr etc .
- We can use leftover idli batter .
