HEALTHY VEG RAGI MILLET ROTI RECIPE / NACHNI ROTI / RAGI ROTI RECIPE | RAGI ROTTI | NACHNI ROTI | FINGER MILLET ROTI 

Healthy and tasty roti recipe made with finger millet or raagi.

Studies have shown that the health benefits of Ragi far supersede that of wheat. It’s gluten-free, promotes heart health, the fiber content helps in improving the digestive system and it’s a great substitute for aiding in weight loss as well.

Ragi improves the movement of food in your body, such that, it smoothens the flow of food through your intestines and retains the water in your body for the purpose of waste excretion. Thus ragi is a highly nutritional cereal and helps you maintain good health.

It is easy to digest. Ragi has a low glycemic index and is high in dietary fiber. It improves digestion, helps in controlling diabetes, and aids in weight loss. It is a rich source of iron, calcium, Vitamin D, and amino acid.

INGREDIENTS

  • Ragi flour – 1 cup
  • Mix veg finely chopped or grated – ½ or ¾ cup [ onion / cucumber / carrot / beetroot / cabbage ]
  • Curd – 1 tbsp
  • Ginger grated or ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Green chilli – 1 or as per taste
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Jeera  – ½ tsp
  • Fennel seeds / saunf – ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Hot water to knead
  • Ghee or oil as needed to roast

METHOD

Take  ragi flour + grated veges + ginger garlic paste + curry leaves + coriander leaves + fennel seeds + jeera + salt + curd and mix well.

Now add required hot water and knead it well  into soft smooth dough .

NOTE – I did not add much water as I have added cucumber .

MAKING ROTIS USING BANANA LEAF / FOIL / PARCHMENT PAPER

Grease the banana leaf / parchment paper .

Take a big ball sized dough and tap gently to a thin thickness.

Make 1 or 2  holes.

Now flip over to hot tawa and press gently all over .

Peel the banana leaf  / paper gently.

Rub few drops of water on the top portion of the roti .

Cover and cook for 1 or 2 mins on medium flame depending on the thickness of the roti .

Flip over once the base is cooked.

Now add oil / ghee and roast both sides until it turns slightly golden.

MAKING ROTIS DIRECT ON TAWA 

Grease a tawa [ not hot ] with oil.

Take big ball sized dough and tap gently to a thin thickness roti .

Place the tawa on medium flame.

Rub few drops of water on the top portion of the roti .

Cover and cook for 1 or 2 mins on medium flame depending on the thickness of the roti .

Flip over once the base is cooked.

Now add oil / ghee and roast both sides until it turns slightly golden.

Serve it hot with butter and spicy chutney.
