HONEY NOODLES / DARSAAN RECIPE

                                      HONEY NOODLES / DARSAAN TOPPED WITH VANILLA ICE CREAM

 Darsaan (Chinese Honey Noodles) is a traditional Chinese dessert where noodles are fried until crispy and then tossed in a honey sesame sauce.

Traditionally, this dessert is made using wonton wrappers which are cut into thin stripsand deep fried .

They  are served with vanilla ice cream

INGREDIENTS

  • Flat noodles – 1 pkt
  • Oil to deep fry
  • Roasted white sesame seeds [ til ] – 1 tsp
  • Sugar – 2 tbsp
  • Honey – 2 tbsp
  • Water – 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla ice cream for topping

PREPARATION-

BoiL water in a big pan.

Once it starts boiling ,drop in the noodles.

Allow it to cook. [ Don’t over cook it ,it should be 90 %done ]

Drain and keep it under a running tap.

Immediately deep fry it in small batches till golden brown and crispy.

Strain and remove on a absorbent paper.

Keep it aside.

METHOD

Heat   a thick bottom sauce pan .

Add sugar + water ,cook till the sugar melts on low flame.

Add honey and mix well.

Add the sesame mix , and off the flame.

Add the crispy noodles to it  and toss it or use tongs to mix it ,so that it gets coated with the syrup.

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

NOTES

  1. After boiling the noodles you have to fry it immediately.
  2. You can mix the sesame in the syrup or sprinkle on the noodles while serving .
  3. Instead of sesame you can use roasted almond flakes.
  4. You can fry noodles before and store it in a air tight container and use it when required.
  5. You can add butter to the syrup.
  6. My friend tried it with regular fine Chinese noodles.
We can serve it plain also

VARIATION – 1

Instead of noodles you can use spring roll sheets or even samosa patti, thaw them and cut them into thin strips. Deep fry them till golden brown and crisp. Repeat the remaining process as above.

VARIATION – 2

Make a dough of maida + water + oil + pinch of salt + baking soda [optional]

Cover the dough and allow to rest for 10 mins

Roll it into very thin circle [chapatti ]by dusting dry maida flour.[it has to be very thin]

Now cut it into thin strips.

Deep fry it till golden brown and crispy.
