RICE RAVA  UPMA /RICE RAVA UPPITTU /UPPUDU PINDI /ARISI UPMA/BIYYAM

Rice rava is nothing but rice semolina or coarsely ground rice. It is used to make traditional Andhra recipes

HOW TO MAKE RICE RAVAFirst wash and soak rice, dal together for minimum 10 mins or maximum 2 hrs. Drain water and spread over a cotton cloth for 10 minutes.

Transfer little at a time to a blender. Grind it for few seconds to make it like rava. Make sure not to powder it finely. 

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup Rice rava
  • 2 ½  cup water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 red chilli
  • ½ tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp jeera
  • 1 tbsp moong dal
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Few curry leaves
  • Salt as needed

METHOD

Heat the pot with oil .

Add mustard seeds  + jeera and let it crackle .

Add chana dal + urad dal and fry till golden .

Add red chilli + curry leaves + asafoetida and give a nice mix.

Add water + salt and bring to a boil .

Once the water starts boiling . lower the flame and add rice rava slowly by stirring.

Cook for 2 minutes till the mixture thickens .

Now keep a tava below the pan for dum cooking .

Cook covered on lowest flame  for 10 mins .

Enjoy hot.

Rice Semolina Upma” is a healthy, savoury dish. It tastes great when accompanied by Mango Pickles. It is suitable for lunch boxes too.

NOTE

  1. Water quantity depends on the quality of rice rava you use.
  2. Cook on low flame as it sticks to the bottom while cooking .
