TURAI MOONG DAL SABJI  / RIDGE GOURD MOONG DAL RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • Sponge gourd or ridge gourd – 500 grms
  • Moong dal – 2 tbsp
  • Finely chopped onion – 1
  • Finely chopped tomato – 1
  • Oil / ghee – 1 tbsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Asafoetida – generous pinch
  • Green chilli finely chopped – 1
  • Red chilli powder – ¾ or 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander pwdr – 1 ½ or 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Lemon slices to serve

METHOD

Wash and soak the dal for 10 mins

Peel and chop the gourd into small cubes.

Heat ghee/oil in a cookerand crackle the jeera.

Add onion + green chilli + curry leaves and stir fry till translucent.

Add tomato and stir fry till oilseparates.

Add red chilli pwdr + coriander powder + turmeric + asafoetida and stir fry for few seconds.

Drain and add the dal and mix well.

Next add the gourd  and mix well .

Stir and cook for a min .

Ad ½ cup water and mix well .

Adjust salt to taste .

Pressure cook upto 3 whistles on medium flame .

Open after the pressure is released and give a nice mix.

NOTE_ if watery cook till excess water evaporates .

Else garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Goes well with chapati or steamed rice with a dash of lemon juice.
