BROKEN RED RICE GREEN MOONG PORRIDGE
Comfort food – Rice moong soup for hydrating and nourishing your body in any season .
INGREDIENTS
- Red broken rice – ¼ cup
- Green moong dal – ¼ cup
- Water – 3 cup
- Salt to taste
- Freshly grated coconut – 3 or 4 tbsp [optional ]
PREPARATION
Clean ,wash and soak the rice + moong for 30 mins or more . [ soaking is optional – you can directly cook ]METHOD
Pressure cook the soaked rice + green moong 1 1/2 cup water with salt upto 4 whistles till the rice softens completely .
Once the pressure releases ,open and mix well.
Add more 1 1/2 cup hot water and mix well .It has to be watery so adjust water according .
Adjust salt as required .
Add coconut and mix well .
Serve hot with any spicy side dishes / pickle / chutney . – Coconut chutney for rice
We South Indians have it with coconut chutney / thogayal.

VARIATION – You can also cook in open pot ,it will take around 35 – 40 mins
- Same can be made with regular rice. cooking time will be different.
- This red rice has lot of nutrients .
- Whole red rice takes more time to cook , so I have used broken red rice .
- It is a best source of magnesium / fibre /vitamins A and B /calcium.
