DRY CHICKEN SHASHLIK

Shashlik, or shashlyk, is a dish of skewered and grilled cubes of meat, similar to or synonymous with shish kebab. Shashlik is basically like a shish kebab, which translates to skewered meat and is a dish that was popular in central and South Asia. Shish were generally made using chunks of lamb, but chicken kebabs have become just as popular. … For this dish, it’s all about balancing the sweet, sour, salt and chilli flavours. Chicken Shashlik is a delicious appetizer recipe often served in restaurants. It is served on a bed of rice .

INGREDIENTS

  • Boneless chicken cubes – 500 grms
  • Baking soda – 1 pinch [ tenderizer ]
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Soy sauce – 1 tbsp
  • Tomato ketchup – 2 tbsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 ½  tsp or as per taste
  • Pepper powder – ½ tsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp + 1 tbsp to fry
  • Cubed onion + capsicum + deseeded tomato
  • Wooden skewer [ soak in water for 10 mins ]

METHOD

Take chicken cubes and add all other ingredients one by one .

 Mix well and marinate for 1 or 2 hrs in fridge.

Once done thread the chicken onto the skewers, alternating it with chunks of onion, tomato and capsicum.. dont give space between the chicken pieces, let it stick to each other .

Heat a pan with 1 tbsp oil .

Arrange the sticks .

Cook on medium flame for 2 min.

 Now turn the skewers .

Cover and cook for 5 mins.

Open the lid and turn the skewers.

Now fry for more 8 to 10 mins .Keep turning for even frying .

 Once done remove and serve with any side accompaniments .

Serve immediately with mint chutney. You can also serve it on a bed of rice or noodles and it would become a complete meal.

NOTES –

Small pieces of chicken should be used for best results.

The greater the marination time, the better is the result.

you can add a tsp of honey also in the marinade .
