INGREDIENTS
- 1 Cup Oats I used quick Quaker oats. 1 Cup – 250ml
- ½ cup besan
- 2 tbsp curd
- Ginger garlic – 2
- Green chilli paste – 1 or 11/2 tsp or as per taste
- Salt to taste
- ½ tsp ajwain
- ¼ tsp red chilli pwdr
- ¼ tsp turmeric pwdr
- ½ tsp chaat masala
- Pinch of asafoetida
- 3 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
- ½ cup finely chopped onion
- Ghee / oil to drizzle
- 1 cup water roughly to make batter
- ¼ tsp pinch of baking soda + 1 tsp oil
METHOD
Take oats in a mixer jar and grind it into fine powder.
Take the oats powder in a mixing bowl ,add besan + all other ingredients one by one .
Mix everything well.
Gradually add water and make a thin batter like dosa batter consistency .because of oats the batter absorbs lot of water . So add accordingly.
Whisk to a smooth flowing consistency in the batter without any lumps.
Keep the batter aside till use .
INGREDIENTS FOR POTATO FILLING
- Boiled and well mashed potato – 3 cup
- Cooked green peas – 1/4 cup [optional]
- Thinly sliced onion – 2 big
- Ginger finely chopped or crushed or grated – ½ tsp [optional ]
- Green chilli chopped – 3 or as per taste
- Turmeric pwdr – ½ tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Salt as per taste
- Oil – 1 ½ tbsp.
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad dal + chana dal – 1 tsp [optional]
- Asafoetida – 2 pinch
METHOD FOR MAKING FILLING
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
Add asafoetida + urad dal +channa dal and fry for few second till golden brown.
Add the onions + green chilli + ginger +curry leaves.
Saute till onions turn translucent . The colour should not change.
Add the green peas + turmeric pwdr .
Adjust salt and Mix well .
Add 3/4 or 1 cup water .
Add the mashed potato and mix well .
Cook for 2 minutes till the potato is coated completely with the masala and it thickens .
Finally garnish with coriander leaves .
You can use this filling for masala dosa, puri bhaji, stuffed sandwich or even vada pav.
METHOD FOR MAKING INSTANT OATS MASALA DOSA
Add baking soda + oil to the batter and beat the batter well.
Heat a tawa, when the tawa is hot, pour a ladle of oats batter and spread it to thin circle with back of the ladle.
Cook for sometime on medium flame
Pour little oil/ghee around the dosa and cook on medium flame.
Spread a layer of filling .
Continue to cook till the base gets light golden and bit crisp . Keep checking so that it doesn’t burn from bottom .
Finally fold the dosa to half and remove it .
Serve the delicious oats besan chilla with tomato ketchup or coriander chutney or any other side dishes .
Enjoy .
NOTES – instead of besan , you can use rice flour .
