Bangalore hotel style coconut chutney
BANGALORE HOTEL STYLE COCONUT CHUTNEY
This chutney is very famous in restaurants, small hotels or even in roadside food carts, especially in Karnataka.
INGREDIENTS
- Grated coconut – 1 cup
- Fried gram dal / Hurikadale / Pottukadalai – ½ cup
- Green chilli – 4 or as per taste
- Tamarind – Small piece
- Garlic cloves – 3
- Curry leaves – few [ 6nos ]
- Coriander leaves – ¼ or ½ cup
- Turmeric powder – a pinch [ optional ]
- Salt – as needed
- Sugar – a pinch
- Water – roughly 1 cup
- Cooking oil -2 tsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Urad dal – ½ tsp
- Red chilli – 1
METHOD
Take the grated coconut + other ingredients.
First grind without water .Now add water as needed and grind .
Grind thick and slightly coarse in texture.
Transfer to a serving bowl and temper the chutney.
Chutney is ready to serve with any southindian breakfast items.
NOTES
- Some do add ½ tsp jeera.
- Sugar is added to maintain the green colour .
- Turmeric is added for bright colour.
- You can use same amount of dal + coconut .
- Chutney has to be thick and coarse and not smooth .
