Bangalore hotel style coconut chutney

BANGALORE HOTEL STYLE COCONUT CHUTNEY 

This chutney is very famous in restaurants, small hotels or even in roadside food carts, especially in Karnataka.

INGREDIENTS

  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Fried gram dal / Hurikadale / Pottukadalai – ½ cup
  • Green chilli – 4 or as per taste
  • Tamarind – Small piece
  • Garlic cloves – 3
  • Curry leaves – few [ 6nos ]
  • Coriander leaves – ¼ or ½  cup
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch [ optional ]
  • Salt – as needed
  • Sugar – a pinch
  • Water – roughly 1 cup
  • Cooking oil -2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½  tsp
  • Urad dal – ½  tsp
  • Red chilli – 1

METHOD

Take the grated coconut + other ingredients.

First grind without water .Now add water as needed and grind .

Grind thick and slightly coarse in texture.

Transfer to a serving bowl  and temper the chutney.

Chutney is ready to serve with any southindian breakfast items.

  • NOTES

    1. Some do add ½ tsp jeera.
    2. Sugar is added to maintain the green colour .
    3. Turmeric is added for bright colour.
    4. You can use same amount of dal + coconut .
    5. Chutney has to be thick and coarse and not smooth .
