Jeera aloo, a flavourful & delicious North Indian side dish made with potatoes, spices and herbs. Jeera Aloo is a typical vegetarian Indian dish which is often served as a side dish and normally goes well with hot pooris, chapatti, roti or dal. Its main ingredients are potatoes, cumin seeds and Indian spices. Other ingredients are red chili powder, ginger, coriander powder, curry leaves, vegetable oil and salt.

INGREDIENTS

  • Cooked , peeled and cubed potato – 250 grms
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Red chilli pwdr – 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Amchur pwdr – ¼ or ½ tsp
  • Chaat masala – ¼ tsp
  • Asafoetida – generous pinch
  • Coriander pwdr – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish

METHOD

Heat oil in a pan .

Add jeer and let it crackle.

 Add green chilli and curry leaves and give a stir.

Lower the flame , add the masala pwdrs + salt and stir fry for few seconds. [don’t burn the masala ]

Add the cooked potato and give a nice mix .

Cover and cook on low flame for 5 to 7 mins.

 Stir inbetween.

Once done off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve hot as side accompanimengt to any paratha/poori/thepla etc

NOTES

  1. We can use baby potatoes .
  2. Don’t overcook the potatoes .
  3. Instead of coorinader leaves , we can add kasuri methi.
  4. Make sure to add jeera in the oil when the oil is very hot otherwise it will not crackle properly
