Red coconut chutney recipe
RED COCONUT CHUTNEY
INGREDIENTS
- Freshly grated coconut – ½ cup
- Roasted gram or daria dal or bhuna dal or fried gram dal – 1 tbsp
- Red chilli – 4 or as per taste
- Garlic – 2 cloves
- Tamarind – small piece
- Salt as per taste
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
METHOD
Grind coconut + daria dal + red chillies + tamarind + garlic + salt to medium fine paste [not very fine] by adding water.
Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds + urad dal , once the dal changes colour add curry leaves and off the flame.
Add this tempering over the chutney and mix well.

NOTES
- Texture depends on your choice whether coarse or fine .
- i have added more chillies as i had used kashmiri red chillies.
- Quantity of water depends on what consistency ,you want the chutney to be.
- Never boil the chutney.
- Dont use stale or old grated coconut,it will give oily flavour.
- Dont use brown scrapings of the coconut.
- Use freshly grated coconut.
- Always use warm water to grind
