Whole masoor dal recipe
WHOLE / SABUT MASOOR DAL RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
· Whole masoor dal – ¾ cup
· Onion – 1
· Tomato – 2
· Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
· Oil + ghee – 1 ½ tbsp
· Jeera – 1 tsp
· Chilli pwdr – 1 tsp
· Coriander pwdr – 2 tsp
· Garam masla – ½ tsp
· Turmeric pwdr – ¼ tsp
· Potato big cubes – 1 [ optional ]
· Finely chopped coriander leaves to garnish
· Salt a sper taste
PREPARATION
1. Clean ,wash ,rinse and soak the dal for min 30 mins to 2 hrs or more .
2. Blend the onion + tomato + ginger garlic into fine paste.
METHOD
Heat oil + ghee in a pressure cooker , add jeera and let it splutter.
Add onion + tomato + ginger garlic paste and fry till oil separates.
Add chilli pwdr + turmeric pwdr + coriander pwdr + garam masala pwdr and fry till raw smell leaves.
Adjust salt and add soaked dal + potato and mix well and fry for 2 minutes.
Add enough water and pressure cook upto 2 – 3 whistles.
Once the pressure is released remove it in a pan and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
If the gravy is thick , then add hot water and adjust the consistency.
NOTES
Don’t overcook dal till mushy , it should be whole but soft .
You can first pressure cook the dal and later add it to the masala.
Quantity of water depends on the consistency you want.
You can also garnish with fresh cream and kasoori methi pwdr.
