MAKHANDI HALWA / CHAKWALI RECIPE

Makhandi Halwa is a unique halwa that is popular in Peshawar region of Pakistan.This is a super tasty dish which is made with semolina or sooji. It is totally different from normal sooji halwas as the method is different

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup semolina / sooji ( 200 g )
  • 2 cup milk ( 500 ml )
  • ½  cup melted clarified butter / ghee ( 100 ml )
  • 1 cup sugar ( 200  g )
  • Dry fruits as required

METHOD

 In a bowl add semolina + milk, mix together and leave it aside for about two hours OR overnight in fridge .

Heat ghee in a nonstick  or heavy bottom pan .

Add sugar . Stir and cook till sugar melts.

Once the sugar melts  , it will turn into light caramel brown colour syrup.

Be careful don’t let the sugar burn otherwise halwa will taste bitter.

Now  add the semolina mixture, and keep mixing the mixture.

Stir and cook for 12 to 15 mins on low flame .

Add cardamom pwdr and mix well .

The halwa will start changing colour and ghee will start oozing .

Once done off the flame .

Garnish it with almond and pistachio slivers.

This halwa tastes yum when it’s warm.
