PLAIN MILLET DAL KHICHDI / KODO MILLET KHICHDI
KODO MILLET KHICHDI
INGREDIENTS
- Ghee – 2 tbsp
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Turmeric – ¼ tsp
- Kodo millet – ¾ cup
- Yellow moong dal – ¼ cup
- Ginger grated – 2 tsp
- Onion finely chopped – 1
- Tomato finely chopped – 1 big
- Green chilli – 2 or 3 or as per taste
- Mixed veges like carrot / peas / beans – 1 cup [ optional ]
- Salt to taste
- Water – 4 ½ to 5 cups
METHOD
Dry roast the millet till hot to touch .
Wash the millet + moong dal together and soak for 20 to 30 mins.
Heat ghee in a cooker , add jeera and let it crackle .
Add onion and stir fry till translucent .
Add ginger and stir fry for few seconds .
Add tomato + green chilli + + turmeric + salt and stir fry till soft.
Add the veges and stir fry for 3 to 4 mins.
Add the soaked dalia + moong and mix well.
Add 3 to 3 ½ cup water and mix well. [ add water as per the consistency you want ]
Adjust salt as needed.
Pressure cook on medium flame upto 2 or 3 whistles.
Once done off the flame.
Open the cooker and give a mix and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves .
Serve hot with any side dishes.
Top it with more ghee .
NOTE –
You can add masalas of your choice.
Same recipe cane be tried with dalia or any other millets .
