SOUTHINDIAN STYLE BOTTLE GOURD MOONG DAL CURRY RECIPE

BOTTLE GOURD MOONG DAL CURRY SOUTHINDIAN STYLE / DOODHI MOONGDAL / SORAKKAI KOOTU

INGREDIENTS

  • Bottle gourd cubed – 4 cups
    Moong dal – 3 tbsp
  • Onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1
  • Turmeric – ¼ tsp
  • Garlic – 3
  • Salt as required

FOR GRINDING [ grind all the below ingredients into a coarse paste by adding little water ]

  • Grated Coconut – 4 or 5 tbsp
  • Jeera -1 tsp
  • Green chilli – 4 or 5 or as per taste
       

   FOR THE SEASONING

  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2
  • Asafoetida  – a pinch
  • Curry leaves – a sprig

METHOD

Wash and take the dal in a cooker.

Add the tomato + onion + garlic + turmeric + salt + 1 cup water and pressure cook upto 3 to 4 whistles.

Once the pressure releases open and mix well.

Add the coconut paste and mix well.

Add hot water and mix well as per the consistency you want .Dont make very thin .

Adjust salt accordingly.

Heat a pan with oil and crackle the mustard seeds.

Add asfoetida + curry leaves and give a quick stir.

Immediately pour the cooked dal and mix.

Bring to a boil and off the flame .

Garnish with coriander leaves .

Serve hot with rice or chapati .

NOTE

Instead of moong dal we can use any dals .
