KARNATAKA STYLE RED COCONUT CHUTNEY 

This chutney is very famous in restaurants, small hotels or even in roadside food carts in Karnataka.

INGREDIENTS

  • Grated coconut – 1 cup
  • Fried gram dal – 3 or 4 tbsp
  • Red chill – 3 or 4 or as per taste
  • Tamarind – Small piece
  • Garlic cloves – 3
  • Salt – as needed
  • Water – roughly 1 cup
  • Cooking oil – 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½  tsp
  • Urad dal – ½  tsp
  • Red chilli – 1
  • Few curry leaves

METHOD

Soak the red chilli in little water for 5 mins.

Take the grated coconut + other ingredients.Squeeze and add the red chilli also .

First grind without water .Now add water as needed and grind .

Grind thick and slightly coarse in texture.

Transfer to a serving bowl  and temper the chutney.

Chutney is ready to serve with any southindian breakfast items.

NOTES

  1. For variation we can make without dal also .
  2. Chutney has to be thick and coarse and not smooth .
  3. Instead of whole dry red chilli , you can use red chilli powder also.
  4. Instead of garlic use small piece of ginger.
