PALAK MOONG DAL
INGREDIENTS
- Yellow moong dal – ½ cup
- Palak thinly sliced – 1 small bunch
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Jeera – 1 tsp
- Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
- Onion finely chopped – 1
- Green chilli finely chopped – 1
- Tomato finely chopped – 1
- Red chilli pwdr – 1 tsp or as per taste
- Turmeric – ½ tsp
- Coriander pwdr – 2 tsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Sugar – ½ tsp
- Kitchen king masala – 1 tsp or garam masala – ½ tsp
- Hot water – 1 ½ or 2 cup
- Salt to taste
METHOD
Boiling the dal:
Wash moong dal and pressure cook with 1 ½ cups of water upto 2 whistles on medium heat.
Let the pressure release itself, open the cover and keep the dal aside .No need to mash .
Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat .
Add cumin seed and let it sizzle.
Add onion + green chilli and stir fry till light brown .
Add ginger + garlic paste and stir fry till raw smell leaves .
Add tomato + salt and stir fry till oil separates .
Add turmeric + coriander powder + red chili powder + kitchen king masala + asafoetida + sugar .
Mix and cook for a minute.
Add chopped spinach and stir fry for 5 to 6 mins till sweats and reduces .
Add cooked dal + 1 ½ or 2 cup hot water and mix well. Adjust water as per the consistency you want , as it thickens on cooling .
Let it come to boil and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
Turn off the heat and serve hot.
