high protein breakfast / HEalthy horse gram idli and dosa
HEALTHY PROTEIN RICH IDLI AND DOSA FOR BREAKFAST /VIRAL IDLISICLES RECIPES
Healthy Kulith Idli or Horse Gram Idli are naturally fermented and steamed no Rice savoury cakes made using Horse Gram ,idli rice and Urad Dal. They are almost zero oil, protein and calcium rich nutritious breakfast which fuels up one for a healthy start.
A perfect vegan and gluten free breakfast or lunch.
Horse gram is high in protein and fiber.. Horse gram is a great source of plant-based protein, which helps in weight loss. It increases levels of appetite-reducing hormones like GLP-1, PYY and CCK, while reducing levels of the hunger hormone – ghrelin, which makes us crave less to eat, thus aiding weight loss.
As horse gram produces heat in the body, it is advisable to consume the seeds along with cumin seeds, buttermilk or other ingredients that can balance the body heat.
Horse gram is a storehouse of polyphenols, flavonoids, and potent antioxidants that keep your body strong, vibrant and young. As per the traditional manuscripts, horse gram has the power to heal any health issue you name it such as asthma, bronchitis, leucoderma, urinary discharge, kidney stones and heart ailments.
Promotes Weight Loss – The seeds of horse gram have natural qualities that work as fat burners. It can reduce the LDL cholesterol and increase the HDL cholesterol . Studies have proven that horse gram seeds can directly attack the fatty tissues stored in the body. It is favourable in melting body fat and gives a proper shape to the body.
NOTE – Consume horse gram seeds moderately , as it could tremendously incease body heat, when eaten in large amounts.
INGREDIENTS
- ½ cup whole urad dal
- 1 cup Horse Gram | Kulith
- 1 tsp Fenugreek Seeds / Methi Dana
- 1 cup idli rice
- ½ cup poha
- Salt to taste
- Oil for greasing the moulds
NOTE – you can take 1 ½ cup kulith + ½ cup rice+ ½ cup urad dal
METHOD
Clean and Rinse the Kulith + rice + dal + methi dana nicely 4 – 5 times.
Soak them in enough water 5 – 6 hours.
Drain the water and give once again a good rinse .
Add the poha to it and give a nice mix.Let it soak for 5 mins .
Drain the excess water and grind the mixture of dal + rice to a idli batter consistency.
Pour the batter in a large container.
Add salt and give a mix .
Beat /whisk and mix the batter well for 3 to 4 mins .[ important step ]
Cover and keep it in a warm location for 9 -10 hours or more depending on the hot weather.In cold season it takes more time for fermentation .
STEAMING
Heat water in steamer .
Grease the idli mould with oil and pour a ladleful of batter .
Put the idli stand inside and close the lid.
Let it steam for 10 – 12 minutes .
Off the gas .
Wait for another 5 minutes and then use a sharp knife to scoop the idlis out.
Serve warm with any chutney /sambar etc
NOTE –
We can also use kulith sprouts .
Same batter , add 1 or 2 tbsp water and make dosa.
